Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

That’s the plan GM
Thank you

I need to break the perfectionist habit because as soon as I see myself as failing I derail BIG time for weeks

I ALWAYS want to improve, develop or change. It's probably my raison d'etre.

Am feeling rather aimless and adrift atm, so reckon tiny targets are as important to me as tiny habits. Steps along the way an' all that. I do realise the journey (yikes, j word!) is the important thing ... but one needs to decide on a journey even if the destination isn't that significant.

I'm a believer in habits rather than targets. My 2023 list of things to do each day was Duolingo, walk or run, musical instruments practice and do something in the garden. Added for 2024 are to write something and 10 minutes of strength, core or flexibility exercise. I have a scrap of paper and tick each item each day - try to get to 300+ for each thing.

Ticking them off each day is a good visual act, Cerratonia.
Tiny habits to get you to tiny targets; all part of the journey, as you say, Sharkie. It's ok for the destination to be a surprise :)

That's something I'm still working on, but am getting better at, EP - I'm not failing if I'm not doing it 💯; I am failing if I let one miss become a long chain of misses.

I've never been able to countenance Porridge. But I have just found out that if you do a 50/50 mix of oats and granola and leave to soak in milk overnight, the result is surprisingly palatable. Thassorl*

Nice way of thinking GM
I’m vey all or nothing black and white which isn’t good
So I’ll cut out everything “bad” so when I cave it’s big

So thinking of planning in treats this time. I can’t calorie count as it doesn’t work for my personality. In the past it’s resulted in me getting on the scales every time I was in the bathroom so 3 -6 times a day

I think 2026 is very realistic Pix, especially if you approach it through the tiny habits principle!
I am doing the same with my BIG goals. I am NOT setting targets. I am doing a tiny thing each day, then, at some point in time, I will arrive at my goal.
It worked for the walk to the top of the ridge!
Everything was desperate, then suddenly, I set off for a walk and got there as I was ready :)

It almost sneaked up on me so to speak, as I accumulated/extrapolated the tiny steps I took each day.

Perhaps I need to start a rival thread (although given my current thoughts about ME starting threads, I most certainly won't) ... I know I need tiny targets not habits. if I tweak my habits I'll end up doing too much, too unfocused. So am probs the opposite of Cerretonia in that respect.

About This Thread

A thread for any who wants to improve, develop or change. Significant change grows out of small good habits done consistently. Consistently doesn't mean 100% perfection but does require effort and repetition. It takes time, dedication, healthy decisions and maybe some sacrifice.

Set a realistic outcome/goal/target/identity.
What habits do you need to do consistently to enable you to reach that outcome?

Start - focus on the right habits, make them your priority every day. Record each d...
