Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

A top hat question for you!

rf_fozzy - I did realise the joke but didn't understand the website!

The hat is a work in progress to look like a cork. We will be adding words etc but I don't know whether to ditch the brim or not.

Aaaaaaahhhh! OK.

I think you might need the brim. I think it might add stability. Especially as it is sooooooo tall!

It can be cut down - I was just holding the roll of cork around the hat to see how it would look. The actual hat is probably about half that height

Keep the brim but disguise it as the foil cap maybe ?

As the wearer of a top hat ( Salisburys Town Crier ) I don’t believe you need the brim. It’s more about how snug the internal sweat band is. That can be padded out internally to really tighten the fit BUT then you need to take into account how long you’re going to wear it for. It can be quite headache inducing over time.

M-i-L’s ancestors were hatters and made top hats. Apparently a number went mad due to the mercury used in the manufacturing process.

It's meant to look like a what? Oh, a cork. Phew.

In the configuration above, it does look a bit, well ... penisy.

:-) It will be cut down to about half - we do have to wear them on a Ryanair flight!

I’ve worn a top hat when dancing and use the brim to pull the hat on firmly. Although you can also push down on the top of the hat to make it sit firmly on your head, that might be difficult if it’s too tall, so it might be worth considering keeping a little bit of the brim.

Have you (or someone you know) removed the brim from a (cheap) top hat and still been able to wear the hat?
