Yay! I've actually been in cross country with Laura (and Andy Butchart, Calum Hawkins etc.) Amazing to see these "real" people up and beating best in world. G

That is a good subject. Proper athletes you have raced against.
Off the top of my head. Ron Hill. Steph Twell. Euan Thomas. Helen Clitheroe. Chris Thompson. Alyson Dixon.
Probably more.....

Think that's a different thread, OS...
RE: "not getting posh sports" or whatever was said.
No you've misquoted/misunderstood me.
It's not about "not getting them"
I don't particularly like equestrian sports, but it's not that I don't get them. I just find them boring. That's a personal opinion that I am allowed to hold. Just as I quite regularly find many football matches boring too.
My particular criticism is about *accessibility* of those sports to the majority of the population.
In my personal experience, people I know who own horses (as children) all come from above average income families. I know the cost of stable fees because an auntie owns a horse (retired, no children, so lots of disposable income) and many people I know couldn't afford them!
People I know who went to private schools (mostly through hockey) all did things like fencing, equestrianism (i.e. Modern Pentathlon sports...). Most people I know who went to state schools were lucky if they did any sport at all - we did hockey, football, basketball, rounders, a bit of rugby league and squash (in Yr10/11/6th form we were allowed to go to a local squash club on occasion - a priviledge many schools didn't have) and a tiny bit of athletics and a tiny bit of cricket. That was the range.
I could make accessibility criticisms of many sports (including and especially the ones I do, e.g. hockey, orienteering which both have significant issues in access) - our relative paucity of field athletes is because we don't do those in schools.
I have ideas about how they could change this, but it'd take a radical rethinking about how we use schools and it wouldn't happen with so many schools (a) being PFI and (b) academies etc.
In general, the wealthier you are, the greater access to sports you have across the board. Some sports are always going to be less accessible unless major changes are made.
Anyway, off topic and a good bronze for the Women's 4x100, although I felt sure they were going to be DQd for that 1st changeover
