I beat Mo Farah when he DNF'd his first London Marathon, he only did half and caved under the immense pressure I was putting him under from several miles back

From personal experience, my experience and not my aunties or the posh lad up the road: Money comes into access to many things in life, sport included. However it is not an ultimate barrier and in particular regards horses there are ways into this for those of all levels.
You do not need to own a horse to be involved and even owning a horse need not be overly expensive. This is from someone that has personally owned a horse or even more than one at points in my life,y family have/do also and a good number of friends and others I know. Many of us are from lower than average income families and even shock horror from council rented properties and went to/go to state schools. Often not wearing the latest fashions or having an iPhone.
Examples: There is shared ownership There is loaning (can loan for free) Many can be kept largely at grass and this is not a very expensive option when paying for that grazing. You can get free riding lessons in return for helping at stables.
There are many ways to access equestrianism without being a loaded spoilt kid.

I beat Dame Kelly in a Duathlon. Seconds in it at T1 around 20 mins for 5k, she was hopeless on the bike and blew (24 mins) run 2.

Eilish McColgan's raced me a couple of times (she's a regular at Percy Pud). She pulled a sneaky sprint finish to beat me by 17 minutes or so...

PS That Laura Muir second lap was brilliant - I love sprints and long-distance too but there's nothing like the unwind from the final bend of a middle-distance race... (if I was reincarnated as a Proper Athlete, I think I'd like to come back as a miler).

It's different for sprinters cos there's only 6-8 in each race - but Asha Phillip at one the Newham 60ms about four years ago.

Interesting to hear the relay athletes talking about the team and the 5 year cycle. It’s no longer an event where they just throw a few people together just for the games, they’re treating it as they would a team event in any other sport. And the results show that. Very exciting races, but we’ll run by Italy to pip us for the gold.
