I haven't watched or read either - anyone care to summarise? Thanks. :-) G

So in words, EVs considerably lower lifetime greenhouse gas emissions, including all inputs - manufacturing, and elec gen to fuel. Good.

And then you can add on / takeaway

* choosing a deliberately green elec tariff (I know it doesn't guarantee where your electricity generation comes from but it supports sellers who prioritise their wholesale mix from renewable sources)
* home generation eg solar, if you are able to

Those further reduce your GHG impact from the run portion.

Thanks TR. :-) G

EV #2 ordered today, to replace the e208 when it's three year term comes up.

After taking the teenagers with us to sit in the back of the Hyundair Kona, the Peugeot e2008 and the MG4 EV the clear winner was the MG for back seat space. 64kWh battery for a good chunk of extra range,

Feels like a slightly risky option with MG not being as big a brand (these days) but that new car excitement can start!

Delivery expected late July.

I think the MG4 looks good larks. And I think the warranties and support are there, so not much risk. Are you buying outright or a lease or another motability deal? I'm surprised more space in MG4 than e2008. The Kona isn't huge in the back though. Thought the e2008 was SUV sized whereas MG4 and Kona are more VW Golf hatchback sized?

I've looked at Volvo XC40 second hand and I think prices are coming down. Hopefully in a year's time they will be down to something I can afford! :-) G

The Hyundai and MG showrooms were next door to one another, so we piled all the boys into the back of them as the acid test. There was no contest, the leg room was as tiny in the back of the Kona as it is in the e208, and the e2008 the roof tapers in so the boys felt their shoulders were cramped.

The boot in the Kona was miniature too. Really surprised me as I'd looked at the Kona in a car park at the weekend and was surprised how big the car felt from the outside.

It feels risky just in the sense that MG aren't (yet) one of those big brands with a strong reputation for quality, and they are definitely going for the cheaper end of the market.

Did actually have a test drive, it was very with plenty of tweaks on the electronic screens to play with when we take delivery.

Motability, so it's an easy financial decision to make.

I've been very happy with my MG5 so far - 11 months in. No issues with build quality, and I thoroughly enjoy driving it. I do have concerns re spares availability, but not because I've encountered a problem, just that I imagine it could be a problem, given low volumes in the UK and it being a Chinese company.

I think they are growing so I'd bet on them.

Good to hear the MG4 is good room larks. It's in my list for my purchase next year 2nd hand or maybe even new, as they are reasonably priced. :-) G

It's now a month since I last used the grid to charge my car - since 2nd April all charge has come from excess daytime solar pv generation that would otherwise have been exported to the grid - just short of 200kWh in the month or 800 miles worth :)

After much deliberation, showroom visits and reading countless reviews, have ordered 58kwh VW ID.3. Should be delivered in next 2 weeks. Any recommendations for home charger?
