Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

Electric car anyone?

Oops. EV beginners' error! 250 mile longest trip yet to Blackpool. 100 miles down road- forgot charging cable! :-0

Decided to press on. Pee stop on M6 services, gridserve fast charger with cable. Result! Half top up, Costa and go.

Can't believe I forgot cable! But shows infrastructure is more plug n play now literally! :-) G

Which M6 services? Northbound I always stop at Burton in Kendal - has about 8 chargers. Its very variable - some services only have a couple and you're lucky if they both work

Lol at the charging cable fail! Actually when I've done long drives I've always just used rapids or tethered fast chargers so not an issue. Though to be fair I only have a tethered at home so I could never forget the one which lives in the boot permanently.

I might buy another cable for home cos that was just silliness and caused a right panic! I've got so used to only charging at home.

Glad the fast charger have cables! It's been really good - plug in, just tap contactless and charging starts. Gridserve top marks! I bought a large Costa and only just finished it in time it took to charge - 14% to 84% so far. :-) G

Has anyone else seen a lecture type video on the CO2 pros and cons of EV’s ? Basically saying it’s not the way forward?

No, if you can link it, I'd be interested to read what the cons are. And what is the alternative?

There are a lot of variables and a lot of rubbish spouted about the comparative lifetime CO2 production of EVs vs ICEs. Variables in the production process, the source of the electricity used to power EVs and the longevity of EVs.

I follow the "just have a think" channel in YouTube and this 12 minute video on the subject was posted last autumn:

I'd trust @AukeHoekstra on twitter over any self-taught YouTuber, however well intentioned they might be.

Each to his own.
The video presents a summary of a 2021 peer-reviewed ICCT white paper on the issue, so I'm happy to give some weight to its conclusions.
Thanks for the link to Hoekstra - I'll add him to my Twitter feed
