So, I fixed the brakes on the Astra. Easy job in the end. The bleed nipple had been rounded off (presumably by by some ham-fisted eejit at the dealership) which effectively deep-sixed my plans to replace the piston. However, a new pattern part for the caliper cost ~£50 and came complete so all I had to do was plug it in and bleed the system. Sorted! The most recent tale of woe/fortunate escape happened this week with the Landrover. On my way home from work Wed evening, made it a dozen miles through a 20 mile journey when loss of power and weird whirring noise become apparent. Nursed it home, checked coolant (low) and oil (non-existent). Cursed self for not having checked oil for a couple of weeks (OK, maybe a month), topped up all levels and took it for a run. Huge clouds of blue smoke so turned off quick and left for Mrs C to ring the garage on Thu. Topped off the oil and took it to the garage where, by Friday when they inspected it, there was again no oil. Fortunate not to have seized it, I think...

Mmm, what do reckon is going on?

Turbo is f@*£ed. The blue smoke clouds was it rapid burning the best part of 5 litres of oil. Luckily the garage know me, and they’ve got a Christmas tree Disco out the back (which is about to be diffy one turbo!! :) )

That's a lot of oil. I hope you get it sorted soon.

It’s a garage job, so hopefully it’ll be back on Wednesday. They’re also going to replace 2 tyres and the front wheel bearings whilst they’re at it.

I’ve put my name on the overtime rota at work!! :)

No, but I hear and read a lot about solutions to faults so it maybe something I've seen fixed.
