Use any old compost, or soil, they’ll be fine.

If I get any to flowering stage it will be a bloody miracle.

I’m embarrassed to report I took my eye off the ball the last couple of days and my sunflower seedlings all expired in the heat. I’m unreasonably cross with myself. New lot sowed this evening.

That’s easily done in this sudden heatwave Frag.
Planted my seeds at the allotment in the dark. God knows how close together or in how crooked a line :) Lovely sunset though. I meant to enrich the soil a bit but didn’t have time.

OK - this years Competition.

The Roolz

1. Begins when you can
2. Ends when your sunflower start to fade
3. Biggest one wins

4. Disasters are to be posted so we can all laugh/commiserate/laugh at them

5. All forms of growing aids are allowed. There's no drug testing in this competition so if you find the Lance Armstrong of Sunflowers - grow it and win !

6. Bigleggy always wins ;-)
7. As the national flower of Ukraine is the Sunflower, the Russian Giant variety is banned.
