Maybe not odd, just not quite in the spirit of a mountain marathon; no need to carry tents, food available to buy, and the easier courses provide gpx files, and are clearly not challenging in the sense of other MMs. They seem to have made the easier courses even easier for this year. And I'm not sure I really want to do 3 days; as a first timer I'd rather do slightly harder for 2 days than easy for 3, and hard for 3 days might be a stretch.
And clearly all the bells and whistles on the GL3D come at a price: £300 pp compared to £75 or £85 for the Saunders or OMM Lite. Only £55 / £65 for under 30s (not me, obvs.) at SLMM!

So it seems. It may be that the more traditional MM format is just not appealing to a modern audience (hence the reduced entry cost for the SLMM for younger adults). Too hair shirt?

I hadn’t look at costs which have increased recently. The year I did GL3D cafe was deemed too easy. My mum did 2021 I think and that cafe was too hard overall for 62 years old. I like the format but agree it’s not a true MM.

Looks like the road west of Thirlmere will be passable whilst any further rock stabilisation is carried out (but only to horses or those risking prosecution!!)

Weird you are allowed on a horse but not on foot.
The chance of there really being CCTV?

It’s a weird quirk of the Traffic Regulation Order used that doesn’t restrict horses 🤷♂️

Weird wording. “Modes of transport found to be using this route” - are those supposed to be animate (and presumably capable of being prosecuted) or inanimate (my motorised vehicle has been prosecuted!)?
And as for those spaces inside the brackets …

A thought: could a horse rider dismount and lead their horse along the road? Or do they cease being a horse rider at that moment?

I suspect the road leads to a bridleway...
And leading a horse is considered herding... According to the 1783 (sic) highways act you are not allowed to herd cattle, horses or goats on the footways... I got fined once 🙄 it might have been a 1738 act or summat but it was 17** and spoke about herding animals and mentioned goats. I was astounded! My then husband said oh, I knew this: I was once given a ticket for parking on the pavement in Westminster and it was in breach of that act 😂😂😂 He thought that was perfectly normal!!!
