Ref the FOD post above. FOD is a major flight safety concern on airfields. The smallest piece of debris can cause a crash if sucked into an engine. Clearing FOD is a big thing. After events we often had to FOD plod - walk an area and pick up anything that shouldn't be on or near the runway. Best example of FOD is the concord crash.
