Our Maisy has developed a taste for cat poo 🤦🏻‍♀️ We’re now working on ways of keeping both her and the neighbours’ cats off the border. I couldn’t work out why her breath stank so much!

Oh dear!

Had my first our-of-control Bella moment yesterday. She ran off to jump up at a complete stranger who was (rightly) not impressed. Thankfully he didn't appear to be hurt by her jumping up at him. I apologised and said we were training her, but I'm wary of practicing recall in the park now.

I sympathise GG! Have had (and still sometimes get) those moments of embarrassment and try to remind myself that we try our best and will get it wrong sometimes.

I used a long lead for months with Albie, letting him trail it and stepping on it when necessary. That with high value treats (mostly chicken). I’ve got better at reading the environment, putting him on lead if there are exciting distractions that will be a bit much (for him it’s dogs that run and he likes to chase and he can be very boisterous in play). I get him to come back to me a lot for treats and started in low distraction environments.

We still have a way to go before he can ignore exciting dogs that don’t want to play 🙄 (I sometimes envy owners with dogs that are obsessed with and only focus on their ball!).

Albie is 18 months now.

Here’s Albie last weekend in the woods (his favourite place to walk).

Thanks PenW. If there had been a dog I wouldn't have let her off (without checking first), but this poor man was just walking alone, about 20 m away, minding his own business.

I think we should get the long lead, at least when I take her because I don't get as much practice in.

I still remember the shame of walking around a sand dune on what I thought was a deserted beach, only to find a picnicking family who’d just been subjected to a high speed smash and grab raid by my whippet.

:-) I've always envied the way dogs can sleep anywhere, anyhow!
