Fragile Do Not Bend
At last my potatoes are showing signs of life! At least I hope these are potato leaves and not weeds. :)

They currently have enviromesh over them to stop the cat using the bed as a toilet, hopefully that will help frost- wise too.

Rosehip, I've had the asparagus for over 30 years. In the photo and description of my garden I gave on page 459, the asparagus bed is almost 20' long. It is that length because the asparagus roots slowly spread out and more crowns are formed - I have to keep giving away crowns to keep the numbers in check!
They are slow growing though - your 6 might take a few years to double in number. However, if you let the spears go to seed at the end of the season, you will find new plants popping up all over the garden.

FDNB, I find that enviromesh offers little frost protection, Fleece does a much better job.

However, with the size of your potato leaves they should be earthed up to encourage more potato tubers. Covering them completely with soil will also protect them against frost. You will probably need to earth up a few times. However, if the leaves do get frosted, the plants will usually recover unless the frost has been particularly severe.

That's definitely more than enough for one person :)

I remember the asparagus patch in nana's garden and us kids being charged with pulling off the "berries" so that they didn't seed everywhere!
