Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

I watched a very good Alan Titchmarsh tutorial on YouTube. He didn’t think much watering was necessary. Mrs D rolled up at my shuffle to tread down the earth

Can I plant sweet pea seeds directly into the ground?

I have no pots or compost...

I have heard that mice are very partial to sweet pea seeds.

They are, Columba - but I'd risk it in the absence of pots/compost
- although you could see what repurposable containers you have and use garden soil if mice are an issue.

I'm so excited

I know I can't pick them this year, but at least one of my crowns is alive :)

- that's a Strulch mulch btw, not big bark chips, that's how teeny tiny the shoot is.

If I decide my allotment is a longterm thing then asparagus will go in.

Germinate sweet peas in damp kitchen towel in a sealed plastic bag, then plant in whatever you have.

Why can't I get peas (mangetout and sugar snap) to germinate in compost at home? I've tried twice and have very disappointing results both times. Is it worth sowing direct at the allotment now?
