Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Trail talons/ X-talons don't work for you?

I'm actually thinking of trying some Topo road shoes. The Altra Rivera 3 has an increased stack height (think every model has increased a bit). I have a couple of new Rivera 2s though so can wait and see what happens for a few months at least.

I have an ancient pair of xtalon 200 which I love, and a brand new pair of xtalon 255 which are the only current xtalons wide enough for my bunion. I bought them a week before this happened to the previous pair:

Not sure the Trailtalons would work for me. I might have to check them out.

Ive got the VJ XTRM ( not the XTRM 2 ) - they're quite narrow in the forefoot

You say the X-Talon 255 are the only X-Talons wide enough. Have you tried the X-Talon Ultra 260 ( which is what used to be the X-Claw 275 ) ? That's definitely a pretty wide fit. Both are 4 on Inov8's scale of 1-5

Yeah, I had a pair of those and really couldn't get on with them. I sold them!

They were wide enough, but I was never happy in them.

I bought some vibram v-trails on vinted (brand new the person had wrong size but didn’t realise in time to return)

But with a daft bunion I hadn’t realised they have a more structured side so anyone interested here?

Size EU 40 - 7-7.5 UK (I normally get a 39 but these were a bargain & figure I could wear socks)

There is a bit of a gap in the strap to left foot but it’s not the sticky part of the Velcro and it doesnt stop them fastening.

So £45 + postage?

The trail talon are reasonably wide (although not as much so as earlier versions) and relatively minimal cushioning (on the 235s), but they are definitely not a fell shoe, and hardly a trail shoe. They have very little grip on muddy stuff due to the design and lack of depth of their lugs. I used them mainly as a road shoe but did run a couple of Lakeland 100s in them for which they were great on dryer years as it's mainly all hard track.

I now use the Trailfly 270s which are zero drop, have a wide toe box, better grip, and don't feel anywhere near as cushioned as they look for trail and dry fell; and stick to the 200s/255s for proper fell running. (I also can't get on with the 260s, much as I'd like to.)

Maybe I should look at the Trailflys. I think the sole looked too stiff for me to look at them closely.

Do they fall apart?
