I see there was a finisher in the VM100+ category at Whangarei parkrun in NZ yesterday. His 175th parkrun, too. WTAF!!! |

That’s no big deal, I’ll be a long way past 175 events by the time I’m 100 years old ![]() |

Fragile Do Not Bend
I visited Royal Tunbridge Wells yesterday, no ice but some seriously rutted frozen mud to carefully negotiate. Thankfully the organisers of the orienteering event I went to afterwards don’t cancel because of ice ![]() |

Looks like they made quite a big deal of it - the local mayor walked round with him and obviously lots of 100 shirts. He wrote this week's report, too. parkrun.co.nz |

Looks like a controversial late call off at Edinburgh. Based on the picture I have seen though it was the right call even if 99.5% of the course was fine.

I didn't like seeing the criticism at all. I don't think 0839h is a "late call off" for Scotland given the start time of 0930h. I think aiming to have course check done by 0830h is pretty reasonable. The post also has a bit of a suggestion that the volunteer(s) were there trying to break up the ice. Then for all their efforts you get some ungrateful gits having a pop. Elsewhere (still Scotland) I was out on Friday for an hour checking our course. And then on Saturday morning the course checker was out around 0730h, and the RD ended up going out too. I know some people appreciate these efforts, but some simply don't. |

I have actually ended up being a little bit short in person with someone who complained about a cancellation. I was like "mate, you had to defrost your car this morning, so it isn't like you didn't notice it was icy".

Aberdeen went ahead but to be fair seeing the bottom prom in places and the finish line it could’ve easily been cancelled and that would have fair enough. Nobody’s saying these ungrateful sods can’t do a freedom run round the course if they are that bothered about a 5k on a Saturday morning. Or they could do the training and become RD’s and make the call. Boils my blood. |
