Great Spotted Flycatcher pic. Superb HowFar. I haven't seen one for twenty years! Plenty of Blackcaps still singing and about ten pairs of Lesser Black Backed Gulls roof nesting locally to me.

Likewise, steve45, not seen a Spotted Flycatcher locally for donkeys' years. Saw one in the south of France last month, though.

Saw a black-tailed godwit yesterday at Caerlaverock WWT where I'm doing a bit of voluntary work these days.

Not a pine marten, or a bird, but a weasel ran across the road in front of us yesterday. Surprised how thin it was. It didn't hang around to look at us, so never saw it's face.
Never sure if I'm watching stoats or weasels, but they're probably my favourite animal to spot. And that's partly because of their build. They pack a ferocious punch and so agile.

SWCP, Godrevy Point. Seals. But also a kestrel, hovering very low and suddenly mobbed by all the 'small brown birds'. Whether stonechats, sparrows, linnets, pipits, (which were in the area) or others, or all mixed, about a dozen suddenly swarmed round it and chased it off.

And any idea what this is? Skulking around in the depths of the foliage/gorse/shrubbery. Definitely not sitting on top. Hence the very poor pics.

Thanks both .. I have another one ...
The web suggests a juvenile linnet, and there were other linnets in the are (Godrevy cliffs / headland on SWCP, north coast of Cornwall). Any confirmation or better thoughts?

This young blackbird sat like this on my neighbours' shed for ages, enjoying the sun
