Our county champs is 5 laps too but just 9.2k long, what ever happened to proper CC distances ? When I first ran senior champs they were 12k and generally over much tougher courses.

Berks Bucks and Oxon CC was at South Prk in Oxford. 3 lap, 9.65km long. Started at the top of a hill and went down. Each lap had 2 ascents. No streams or fields but I thought it was was tough with the hills. Or is that just my (lack of) fitness?

I thought the usual was 3 laps. Guess 5 is good for pacing judgement though.
Warwickshire CC is 9.5km but Midlands CC is 12km

Looking forward to Midland clubs 7 mile x country next saturday at wolverhampton, then next round of birmingham league week after. Have had 2 really easy weeks as i was thrashed after a marathon, half and xc in consecutive weeks so, apart from a 2 mile leg at the warwick uni relays last weekend (and yes nat those same idiots were there too) i ain't done a lot, but the brisk 5 odd miles i did this morning suggests there might be some life in the old legs yet...

Yay we're doing the Midlands 7 (5 for us girlies) next week, my part of my LSR today was around Aldersley, was trying to figure where there would have the XC bit, ther was some "scrub" land near the all weather pitches, so we will see. We have only got two men entered so you won't have any competition there When I've done the Worcs counties it has been the "standard" distance - 6k for us and the counties/national 8k.
Someone was saying they are doing building work at Birchfield, last time I did it it was 2 laps... 3 laps is ok I guess but 5 laps would be a bit dull, not the most inspiring course at the best of times, at Stafford Common last week they couldn't do part of the corse due to horses being in the field so the guys had to do a 4 lap 10k which was bad enough - like an XC version of the wacky races!

Worcester Champs is being held jointly with Warwickshire Champs this year at Cofton Park. I assume this is to save some money, which makes sense.

Yep, sure to be money saving -
I think last year it was only Worcs and Warwicks that didn't cancel because of the snow - everyone else were lightweights and called it off!

SPR in the good old days area champs used to be 9 miles, though the Southerns still are when they are at Parliament Hill.
I was rather annoyed when our (Norfolk) champs were off last year as the course was fine to run on.
