SPR - in the Midlands Leagues

Birmingham - Men's races - yes you have to declare your runners on a team sheet beforehand and wear a number pinned to vest. At the large all Div fixtures you wear a Div number on your back. Don't know if the single Div fixtures you take a token too as they are usually in a different place from the mens.

North Staffs - no numbers worn you take a token at the end and give it to team manager who enters name and token # on to a team

I'm the men's team manager (don't ask) and I had nothing to do at Leamington and have to collect the tokens and add up the scores for N Staffs.

At least we get times on the results, someone told me the other day some of the Southern ones they don't bother, I was surprised by that!

"in a different place from the mens" = "in a different place from the womens" and "on to a team" = "team sheet" I seem to have trouble finish..........

If I counted running at school then my first cross country race was 32 years ago- can I count that one. If so, then this is a comeback :-)

I did my first one two years ago, I loved it.

For anyone interested in the "rules" round here, with the Midlands / N Staffs you should be a first claim runner for your club to run, if you are in a Uni team and your home club is running in the same race you should run for the home team and NO GUESTS - the Birmingham League in particular are pretty strict and Birchfield who were top after Leamington are now on 1000 points at the bottom of Div 1 for allegedly having a guest runner. And there were some twits from Warwick Uni(?) with Ipods on who have been warned, it really *is* against the rules there.

We enter the Birmingham and N Staffs Leagues from club funds every season, we pay the League and then we have to get the required amount of runners to turn out, we don't charge our runners extra above their subs to run these races, they just have to wear a club vest. I sometimes think it is a shame that XC is not more open but I guess there are other XC races people can enter if not in a club. Doing club XC encouraged me to venture to the Sodbury Slog, Hellrunner, Grizzly etc.

In Birmingham League and N Staffs if we don't finish a team it is automatic demotion. We had a problem last season where two failed to get to a fixture at Birmingham (Severn) so we went down to D3. Thankfully for the Women's side where we have traditionally had a real lack of interest from within the club there is so little interest generally there is only 1 division (so we can't be demoted!!)

Strangely for the EACC league I mentioned earlier I could have declared for one of two teams and it was entirely my choice* but however it would stick for the season

ndellar - was there supposed to be a *not* in front of your first sentence?

Token at all fixtures if I remember correctly.
