Plenty of clips circulating of NLAWs being used. I wouldn't want to be a Russian tankie, that's for sure.

The Observer taking a tough line on NATO. -- theguardian.com "So here are some of the hard choices western leaders must urgently consider. First, direct intervention to create a safe haven in western Ukraine, where displaced people may congregate instead of fleeing abroad. Inform Moscow in advance of its location and boundaries. Be clear it will be protected by Nato air power and ground forces invited in by Kyiv. Second, declare the unoccupied city of Odesa off-limits. Send naval forces into international waters in the Black Sea and warn Russia to cease coastal bombardments or face serious, unspecified consequences. Third, tell Putin that if his artillery and missile units fire on civilians again, as in Kramatorsk, they will be deemed legitimate Nato military targets. Fourth: supply fighter planes and tanks to Kyiv. Fifth: block all Russian fossil fuel exports. These are radical choices. The risks are obvious. But the only alternative is endless slaughter. If the west is serious about stopping the war, these and similarly robust actions may be the only way left." Not sure I agree with all of that, but I do with some ... maybe. Tis risky indeed but they may be right. |

Remember that Russia are claiming they haven't fired on civilians and that these atrocities were carried out by someone else. So according to their version of events, that would mean NATO moving in on their military, apparently unprovoked if you follow the nonsense pumped out by the media in Russia. That's definitely escalating things, whichever way you look at it. Whether it's right or wrong to go that route, I don't see it happening as things stand. |

It's a real Catch-22 situation isn't it? I also think that some of the opinions aired in The Guardian are unlikely to to materialise, however I think the West really does have to do something soon as this just can't go on. The problem is that despite international outrage and condemnation, there are a lot of snowflakes out there who will object to any intervention - to say nothing of the many countries who are trying to stay neutral or worse, support Russia.

The UN forces can't even step in to help as Russia is part of the UN 🙄🤷🏻♀️

Catch 22 indeed. It’s no good NATO threatening a reaction if Putin goes to far but it they don’t react it’s just encouraging further atrocities. A ‘safe zone’ in Western Ukraine protected by NATO is an interesting idea. It really feels like the West is on the back foot and reactionary. We need to start actually doing something

This is Putin’s trump card because he’s fully aware that the West is frightened of the response to any action they may take.
