K5 Gus - I'd so no to anything but roads - it's a pretty high sole, and not a lot of support for anything but tarmac. The old Zoom Flys (not the flyknit) on the other hand have a reasonable degree of structure to the upper - plus they're rather cheaper on sale

I'd also say that the unprotected parts of the sole look like they will cut up pretty easily and there's next to no grip for off-road surfaces. There aren't any trails round here that I'd take them on, but I am in the yorkshire dales and maybe yours differ!

Having said that I have my eye on a local road marathon that has about a km or so of path in the middle and I might use them for that. But it's a short flat section in summer and I doubt I'll even be racing it really.

So I went with the Streak 6 in the end, it's closer to where I am now (lower profile, stiffer sole). Reading up it sounds like I want the VF 4% or nothing, the Zoomfly seems to be an uncomfortable half way house, which can penalise if you drop pace below 6.50. Plus it was under a 1/3rd of the price of the VF. And it means I won't have to suffer larks tutting at me, for using performance aids :-).

I'm faster than Larks in a pair of boots so he can tut all he wants.
Others at my level wear these shoes

No tutting from me!! It's a personal choice, and as I said before I've never invested in any racing shoes anyway from a purely financial / wife perspective
My dilemma for myself comes in knowing there is a legal performance aid out there which *would* make me faster without me having to do anything at all. I just want to get faster entirely on my own merits for no other good reason than self satisfaction, and I don't at all criticise anyone for wanting to eke every bit of performance out of themselves through use of technology or legal equipment.
I drink beetroot juice prior to a race and I think that really does give me a performance boost, I'm not averse to bringing in external aids to help me out. I'm being incredibly inconsistent and illogical (as per usual).
But if I PB at anything this year I want that performance *for myself* to be due to my body and my training for my own personal satisfaction. I know that sounds like an implicit criticism of anyone who does choose shoes / equipment but it honestly isn't meant to be - each to their own!!

OK, so Zoom Fly Flyknit ordered, the sale price under £100, plus 6% cashback via topcashback seemed a decent deal. Will use for halfs, and maybe road ultras depending how I get on with them

I don't take potions Larks but mainly as I can't stand the taste.
I have learned that if it is legal and available to all it is fair game.
