No, I really do mean the Arctic 😀 Going on a polar bear (and other wildlife) expedition so I won't be doing much running at all!

I'm about to do my second "triple" in the last 5 days! :-O

That is a very easy commute run, much shorter than Baz and PtB's. Then someone asking me if I want to go out for an unplanned lunch time run! To which the answer is always "Yes"! :-) G

I never eat before my commute runs or long runs in morning (for the digestive reasons mentioned!) but I often take an apple with me, or a few sweets to just nibble on as I go. I managed my 21 on Sun on a dryish tracker bar and a few min imperials! But it was afternoon, so I still had my lunch in my system probably. Made sure it was a light lunch and v. early (11.30)! :-) G

Guy in our club (60 years old now) has done MdS, Gobi, Atacama and is now hoping to do the one in the Antarctic...?

•Atacama Crossing (Chile)
•Gobi March (China)
•Sahara Race (Egypt)
•The Last Desert (Antarctica)

Incredibly expensive! :-) G

Met someone last year who had done 7 marathons on 7 continents in 7 days. Sounded like a pretty unpleasant way to waste a week and $35,000.

Thanks, good to hear from a few others. I wouldnt normally eat for a 1 hr morning run. I will always eat before longer runs though.

I had planned to have a banana pre run, but due to the early start my morning routine as larkim politely puts it hadn't followed its normal pattern and I was a little nervous that I may need to change my route and circle back home after a few miles - which I didn't thankfully.

Still starving though, when is lunch ?

I pretty much always get up early enough for breakfast first. On double days back when I was doing them, it was often a long run in to work (anything up to 3h) and then back the shorter way (1h) in the evening. Hardest aspect was that it was so hot I had several litres of fluid to replace and also didn't have much of an appetite during the day, not really sure how I managed that to be honest. Didn't get a whole lot of work done those days! That was my last summer in Japan when I'd pretty much given up work :-)

Normally the only morning run I do nowadays is the long Sunday one through the winter campaign, no way I'm setting off empty for that. Occasionally a shorter pre-breakfast run when away on trips and stuff, still tend to stuff down a breakfast bar and cup of tea or similar.

There's something about intensity too. I can plod along a slow pace (fat burning?) without eating. But if I want some pace, I find something sugary helps.

3 hours in, 1 hour back is impressive jdarun. That's a tough day at the office. :-) G
