Mrs Jigs (Luverlylegs)
Thank you, I am for the most part very happy in my job but want to do more of what pleases me, I shall be 68 this year so I think I have worked enough years, I have had some form of employment almost continuously since I was 16 :-)

I’m pretty certain, if work agree, that I will go down to 4 days from September. I’d like to retire properly in 2026

My work these days is not stressful and I don’t dislike it, but I want to enjoy life while I can and walk lots.

I am wondering if work will let me do my 37 hrs in 4 days at some point. Would been longish days though

22 years at my job. Years 1-18, mostly ok - hard work, periods of stress, but moments of satisfaction. Some super busy periods, some quieter spells.

Years 19-22 an absolute meat grinder of hell. Relentless. Never close to getting on top of stuff, just a matter of trying to do enough today to keep the wolf from the door. Conversations with managers saying ‘ I can do this, or that - not both - which is the priority’ ‘Both’.

I ended up doing less hours, and probably less work in those last years than previous. What’s the point of doing 3 extra hours a day if it barely scratched the pile of urgent stuff and you were still deep in the brown stuff. Getting paid to walk away was magical!

Well done MrsJ. :)

I was with a lady today whose husband at retirement was diagnosed with terminal cancer and didn't live much longer. Very sad I thought.

When I got home this afternoon, I found a brown envelope on the doormat - my invitation to apply to take my state pension, looking forward to a bit of a pay rise in a few months time. :)
