This is one of the reasons I'm leaning toward being bold with my retirement forecasting. I don't want to waste any more years working than I absolutely have to.

It concerns me a bit when I see the ages of some of those who are dying - they are not much older than I am! Like others here, I am hoping to live longer than that, and reach the ONS predicted age of death, rather than the lower actuarial age.

So Dennis Waterman has rolled a six at age 74. Looking at my spreadsheets I’ll be *very* cross if that happens to me. Very cross.
That’s why I think of my mum dying at 57 what I am waiting for when I’m no longer enjoying my job.

I cannot retire until I am 73!!! I'd be extraordinarily cross... And with a greatly reduced life expectancy due to some defective genes, I am certainly not intent on doing anything that doesn't give me pleasure!

Been saying it here for months: Go as soon as you can, even if it’s a drop from the ‘dream’ retirement lifestyle. Quality Time is more precious than cars and holidays.
The extra early years you take will be your best retirement years. The earlier end of work related stress will extend your years of healthy living; grinding away for 5 more years will reduce it!

74 is very young, but he was a drinker and a smoker - we should all do a bit better

Great post Chris. Thank you.
All being well, 10.5 months to go (and really I only work four day weeks for the most part already).
