It’s natural Pix, we both did that. Just breathe, trust that everything is fine, and commit to say 6 months of no work to rest, recover and discover what retirement is like. We both love it and have no desire to work any more, enjoy! X

It's my birthday tomorrow , which begins my 365 day countdown. I might not actually retire on my birthday next year but I hope to have at least started the process of finding out if its at all feasible Currently tho :- Logical Head - Get out next year and enjoy, you've worked all your adult life Illogical head - you gotta work to earn money, how can you possibly stop in a year !! :-/ |

Sadly, exactly that Pix. Our friends had just got to early retirement last year and had no chance to enjoy it due to a horrible illness taking S at 57. We have done nowhere near as much financial planning as most, and do get wobbles about it every now and then, but mostly I think these are our best years, get on and enjoy them. Later we will have our state pensions and likely, even later, we will not want to spend as much as we do now, so it will even out. |

bigleggy here fetcheveryone.com/blog/35294/2024/4/482373 and he was super fit It was my cancer scare (rightly or wrongly I was convinced it was cancer) that pushed me over the edge as such I have a healthy personal pension pot that will be plenty for the 10 yrs between that (57) and state pension (67) but I need to get there! So 6 years self funded. Gran has made this possible but Mr Pix is trying not to use that money as he worries about longevity. Gran was in a home for 18 months at 7K a month |

It’s very true, most people are overly conservative about retirement - partly age related. Most hanker for the aspirational lifestyle when time is your most precious, valuable resource. Your world shrinks, your needs decrease too. Holidays are great but when your life is a holiday, every day yours, no stress, your NEED for the holiday is less. In my view if you own a property which is downsizable (ie you could move into something comfortable but smaller at some point in the future), then you are almost certainly secure enough to retire late 50s. |
