After pondering on this for 12+ months today I switched out of the default funds in my DC pension I have been reluctant to do so as I don’t really know what I am doing and felt I should trust the trustees who should know The annual costs are half that I was paying. Although part performance is no guarantee of the future the three funds I chose have significantly outperformed the default. |

Merry Christmas and Happy NewG(rrr)
I'd be happy to switch to reduce fees Bazo, but I can't be bothered tracking performance. I'm just not interested and I think I would fret about it. I feel like the whole investment process is a big game, and is more akin to gambling (i.e. chance) than to science. And gambling is a big worry for me. Not just in terms of the loss of money, but also the addiction side. So no, I'm going to leave the funds sitting wherever someone else wants to put them and just hope that when I come to access they are worth enough to live on. Good luck to you though, and anyone else who "actively manages" their portfolio. G

That’s been my approach as well although I do keep a close eye on performance. Said performance though has been dreadful.

I thought about becoming a phlebotomist, to top up my meagre pension... Always a demand here apparently. One day a week at the Drs surgery would suit me...

I have 3 DC pots, one I currently contribute to, and two that I don't. I've left them all on the default 'lifestyle' option as I don't feel confident enough to select my own investment funds, nor the incentive to track them. However, I have set different retirement ages on each so that the conversion to 'cash' occurs at different times. Fortunately I also have a DB pension to claim when I'm 65 which I believe will pretty much cover my living costs.
