I’m not sure what rules we have here on spoilers so I’ll tread slightly carefully, but... HOW IN THE NAME OF IAN WILLIAMS’ SACRED TRAINERS CAN ANYONE DESCRIBE MSTSK AS ‘a pure joy’ OR ‘hilarious’. WHETHER I LIKED THE BOOK OR NOT (I DIDNAE) DOES NOT ALTER THE FACT THE PARENTAL BACKSTORY IS DEEPLY NOT FUNNY.

Horrible little book. I hated it.

I agree, it is neither of those things. I think some find joy an hilarity in something so amoral and reprehensible being represented in such a matter of fact way. I believe it is done to point out how the society as a whole has lost its bearings. I totally understand why you don't like it. If it was encouraging this kind of behaviour then I'd be with you, but the whole point is to make us aware of it and shake our heads, and maybe challenge it.

I am currently reading Rain Dogs by Adrian McKinty. It's very good, Norn Ireland Noir, but definitely at the superior end of the crime genre.

I find I've jumped in at book 5 of a series of 7, but it works fine as a standalone.
