Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

I've read GB84 as the miner's strike setting appealed, but it just got too nasty and gtrim and unbelievable at the end. It had the same failings as CHarlie Brooker does on too many Black Mirrors , plot is heading on traintracks into brick wall, where everyone explodes, dies etc etc

As it is my non-birthday today, it is alleged some books will be coming my way tonight. Hoping not to get another dreary 800 page Chinese Sci-Fi

I thought you liked the Three Body Problem? (It did sound a bit dreary after the exciting initial premise tho).

It was soul-destroyingly dull by the end and Spoiler Alert, despite supposedly being about an alien invasion, as the author is a physicist, the aliens are travelling at believable speeds meaning they don't arrive until mid way through the next novel. Life's too short.

You beat me to it with the Dublin Murders link LindsD :-)

I'll give it a go but I agree that it might lose a lot as a TV series.

I've seen that The Goldfinch has been made into a film that's out soon.

this 1-star review from Amazon confirms my opinion:

"I somehow added audio listening so ended up spending more than I intended.. I haven’t read the book yet but cross it cost me more than expected. No way I can see to reimburse the audio"
