Prompted by McG's trawl through 1 star reviews I had a look at the only one star review on Amazon for London Belongs To Me, which I finished over the weekend and, which, like Dio, I absolutely adored. If you're looking for a Really Good Read, this is it, but the 1* reviewer said this:
'Found this on the train coming back from the smoke. Thought it looked interesting, after reading twenty pages I realised why it had been left on the train. UTTER UNRESEARCHED GARBAGE THAT MY ELEVEN YEAR OLD NIECE COULD OF WROTE!

One hopes that the eleven year old niece has a better grasp of basic grammar ;-)

Sadly Amazon have removed the ability to comment on reviews now, so you can't even reply, 'YOU'RE NEICE COULD NOT OF WRITTEN THIS, KNOW WEIGH'

It seems strange to pick on research as a weakness based on the first twenty pages, especially as I expect Collins was far more familiar with the time and situation than most modern readers, even if their memories do stretch back to 1939.
