Got my copy of Broken yesterday and read it yesterday evening. Very good. Thanks for posting about it, flyingfinn.

Still out there on the ACW Paddy, any comments from you lot that know?
solo, acw, winter etc - as a non-expert it seems he's doing OK?

Haven't started reading Broken yet, figure once I pick it up I won't put it down until I've finished it

Because it's ACW it's pretty hard to tell exactly (though the PB is always much more of a guessing game than the BG because of all the variations of start location/time and the much reduced size of the previous data) but albeit in the opposite direction his first three legs were about 20 mins up on Damian Hall's first three legs on his winter record (which was also solo) so that suggests if he can maintain the pace it's going to be pretty quick. But how quick is difficult to tell?

Damian smashed his last leg, particularly the second half off Snowden to just take the record and that leg is a lot more runnable than Russell's last leg, which tbh is not the one I'd chose to be pushing on in the dark to chase a record. So my gut feeling is that it's going to be a very good crack at the record but ultimately he'll miss out.

Incidentally looking at the log of succesful PBs it seems this would be only the 6th winter completion (Martin Stone, Iain Ridgeway (25h+), Tom Phillips, Jim Mann and Damian) and the four previous ones in sub-24 have resulted in a new record.

In his blog, linked on the previous page, he said :

"Less than 250 people have completed the round
Less than 20 people have done it solo
Less than 10 have done it in winter
Less than 5 have done it anti-clockwise
Nobody has done all four of these at once, including me. But I’m going to try."

that's what I thought I'd remembered I'd seen, Gus - against that record he seems to be doing OK at the moment

The more I look at it the more plausible a record seems to be if he can keep moving as well as he is. If he can up and across the Nantlle Ridge in good time it will get very interesting. A lot of down from there but quite a bit of it is pretty rough and nowhere near as conducive to a fast finish as Damian's run off Snowdon. I can see me being up until it's over!

impressive for a "road runner" then :) For his sake, I just want him to get around safely.

Not an FKT but 22:52 is very impressive- in winter ACW.
