Hi everyone, had to drop out of NDW50 yesterday due to really painful lower back. Seems my core is not as strong as I thought. I had to keep stopping to try and stretch it, but didn't really help. A friend of mine has suggested I do dead lifts to help my back strength, but I don't really know where to start, and I don't have access to a gym. Ideas please. Equipment, videos, so kind of plan etc.... |

Sorry to hear that Lil. I can't advise unfortunately especially as you have been doing as much pilates as you have. Your instructor may be best place to start? Did you have a week or two off of pilates before the race? I remember my 'mate' Liz Yelling once telling me not to consider any strength work for two weeks before a race. I had to drop out of Preseli Beast Ultra last week, 31 miles of hilly/mountainous fell running, due to an extremely painful hip. I also put this down to poor core strength and possibly doing zero training on the terrain. I have been good this week though. |

So, deadlifts. Where do I start? Got my bar, put 2 x 2.5kg on, watched YouTube video on correct form. Is that a good amount of weight to start? How many reps? How many sets? Thanks :):) |

Lil I think conventional wisdom says low weight high reps for definition and strength. High weight low reps for bulk. 3 sets, 2 to 10-12, 3rd to Nmf? You will need to gauge any changes that are needed? Could be wrong though x |
