The smaller of my two sunflowers has had a growth spurt ....... and it's not the smallest anymore. It's the same size. But it has a much smaller and as yet undeveloped head.
I seem to have a competition going between my own sunflowers
Also, my Benty McBentstem entry that I repotted has straightened out - So I'll have to rely on the weedy looking ones in the front garden for that competition
This weather seems to be what they have been waiting for.......

Mrs planted a load of different varieties out a few weeks ago. Some in big containers, some others in rows in different areas in garden. No flowers yet - the non-containerised ones seem ok but effing slugs etc. have tried to munch some of them. Have been fighting back though. I was told about using old coffee grounds and that coffee shops give these away free. Picked up a couple of bags from the Coffee#1 place near where I work. I put quite a bit of this stuff around the ones not in the containers. It's been very dry these last few days so the test will come if we get some wet weather. Hopefully the coffee grounds will keep the blighters away.

I have one sunflower left from around 14 (different varieties), all munched by snails and slugs (we have hoards of them). I had copper tape around the pots and raised up etc. but to no avail. Went out one day and there were 5 snails on one plant. Anyway, the one that is left is doing OK, but it's not one of the tall ones. It should be one of the coloured ones so hopefully will look pretty. Rather envious of other efforts - I love mulbs' flowers
