Pop not soul as you suggest NE. I’m a big fan of Craig Charles and listen to Trev Nelson too. Craig’s better

I almost hate to admit this, but my mate from Wolverhampton (a well-known record dealer and absolute oracle of northern soul and reggae/ska) has been getting me into a bit of modern reggae, he somehow knows Hollie Cook and raves about her talent. This ought to go on another thread really, but remember this one? It's Lovers' Rock I guess, tremendous music. |

I posted some Hollie Cook on Swittle Sound System. She is a 6Music reguular. Hollie’s the daughter of Sex Pistol’s drummer Paul Cook

I knew she was the daughter of someone famous but couldn’t remember who. I saw her dad playing with Edwin Collins in Derby in the early 90’s. Him and Steve Jones could play

After that brief dalliance with contemporary stuff I'm back on the hardcore northern stuff Here's a proper record for you, it was found by AC/HH (Ady Croasdell/Harborough Horace - the guy behind Kent records) in the Pied Piper vaults, it's unbelievably good. It was eventually pushed out on a pressing in 2015, but actually dates to 1967. Enjoy. |

Yesterday was a busy day on the Soul Exchange group that I'm part of and a record that I haven't heard for years came up, a truly gorgeous piece of modern soul .... I love this, it's magical and I hope you do too. There are multiple versions of this, including a "reggae-ised" sound that really doesn't do it any favours. This is the original and best, enjoy. |
