Isn’t that what Wales and Scotland are already full of in all decent sites?

Variability is the main problem with solar and wind - hydro pumped storage can help but is not a full solution. Do you look at grid watch? gridwatch.co.uk Look at the wind power output for last month - there are blocks of several days with very low wind power output - hydro pumped storage wouldn't cope with that. It's why I'd like to see more development of wave/tidal power - it's less variable than solar and wind |

But what if you simply look at thermodynamics as that is something that is consistent, then you could generate energy during the night. The Reverse (or Anti) Solar Panel was developed by Ramen and Stanford university researchers last year: sciencedaily.com

Can can produce 64 nanoWatts of power per square meter at the moment.... enough energy to charge an LED Then there is the diamond battery by Bristol University and being tested now bristol.ac.uk or here is the Independent report: independent.co.uk |

Thought this site may interest readers of the thread lowtechmagazine.com There's even a solar-powered version, in a poke against the (potentially) forthcoming data-driven energy apocalypse ™ solar.lowtechmagazine.com |

Great link Dvorak. The first article "Thermoelectric Stove" reminds me of the Biolite camp stove: uk.bioliteenergy.com
