I wish the 'Not My King' idiots would just grow up. We don't live in medieval or Tudor/Stuart times when claimants to the thrown would form an army and battle it out. Our monarchy is firmly established. Whether you're for or against the monarchy, we still have one for which a lot of countries are somewhat envious.

Whether you agree with them or not, we have (had?) a right to peaceful protest in this country, but today it appears we don't. And it is doubly bizarre that people are being arrested for intending to protest. What's that; thought crime?

Nobody is envious of this Putin-esque policing by the Met.

With the greatest of respect Phil I am no more an idiot than those who are being called the same because they are royalist in any way. We all have the conditions that make us who we are and are all allowed to state our opinions. I judge, and name call, nobody including Charles and am happy to discuss why he is not my king but not of it is to include personal attacks.

Grow up? I think they’re beliefs and actions demonstrate mature reasoning and decision making.

Yep. That's part of a law that was given Royal Assent a few days ago by, erm, Charles III, who, like his mum before him, will give assent to any piece of regressive legislation the govt of the day shoves across his desk.

There goes democracy and freedom of speech and the right to protest.
Mind, all that went long ago...

The problem with protest these days is counter protests, whether organised or spontaneous. There were several instances around the country of people heckling Charles when out and about were “lynched” by members of the public.
When there are thousands of people on the streets today who are supporters of the monarchy it might not take much for things to kick off if “not my king” protesters were amongst them.

About This Thread

Maintained by Muttley
So will you be waving your little union jack and pledging your allegiance and scoffing coronation chicken or quiche at a street party?

Or ignoring the whole bloated exhibition of flummery and forelock tugging to inherited privilege and finding more important things to do?

I'm in the latter camp :-)
