I'm still planning to come to this - likely to be doing the shorter option and planning to eat afterwards. Haven't checked the trains yet (I have a Senior Railcard) so may end up driving there on the day.

I would strongly advise against "in depth" research or anything else "in depth" in conjunction with kayaking.

It wasn't so much the kayaking, it was the 2 miles I'd have had to walk up to work afterwards with my kayak on my back. Plus having to contend with the Isle of Wight hovercraft and the Portsmouth-Santander ferry.
