57.5 Degrees of Pain
Thanks James. I have had 3 goals for the last 3 years, sub-18 5km, better my all time 10k PB from nearly half a lifetime ago (36.30) and sub-80. Managed to equal the PB but this is the first time I've achieved one of the goals outright.
I think you just have to want the result with an intensity that defies logic. Yesterday I just knew I would never have a better chance at sub-80. Previous good performa

57.5 Degrees of Pain
oops
...performances have been driven on by the desire not to be chicked (yes, I am very shallow ) and the knowledge that I was battling for 5th place in a race with 5 (unique and cool) prizes. It is funny how the mind over matter equation can be tipped by such trivia!

Totally agree, its weird what can spur you on.but as long as something is spuring you on, why not? Its work.
Keep it up, looks like its going to be a good 2015!

Great run 57! What is your current 5K time? One of my goals this year is sub 80 also, and after running 17:21 at Parkrun on Saturday I think I might have a chance of this during the 1/2 I have in May. Will do a 10K in a few weeks see how that tracks, hopefully 36 something.

After London, I will focus on 5ks again, really enjoyed them last year, few months of 5k, then Aug/Sep couple of 10ks.finish with a Oct Half.

I managed an 18.05 PB in 2013 and only 18.14 last year so the sub-18 is still elusive. I am obviously pretty one paced!

To range from an 18 min 5k to a 2:54 marathon shows some serious stamina. I'm the opposite - broke 5 minutes before the mile before breaking 40 for 10k
When hurting, I always think that the runners around me have to be hurting as hard as me, if not more so. Doesn't help with my own but if they aren't giving up then neither am I.
I seem to have recovered very well - eased into a club session tonight and ended up with 8M @ 6:20/m & 156bpm avg - 6:15 was comfortable this evening. Very happy but looking forward to an easier next week!

57.5 Degrees of Pain
Meanwhile I have two calves that are still pretty much seized up. The perils of old age ;-).
