LMH, absolutely. Particularly when you throw in travel and/or an overnight stay. It being an 'all eggs in basket situation' heightens the stakes considerably.

I’ve been dead lucky with my marathons, a couple got a bit hot but otherwise all went pretty smoothly in near-perfect conditions. I got covid at mancs 2022 but that was actually at the event (I’m pretty sure) and took a few days to come on. rhb, I expect all official medical advice would be to take a couple of weeks off, etc etc, but I reckon if it’s not too difficult to run then the risk of further injury is pretty small. As you’ve seen, you’re just as likely to go over on it walking along anyway! |

rhb - I'd give it a good rub with Voltarol gel or similar before bed and before a run. Could help and not going to hurt. Funnily enough I've turned my left ankle twice recently for no good reason, fortunately not enough to affect running but I can feel it when I rotate the ankle. I'm just ignoring it.

I had Valencia ruined post covid a couple of years ago, then Chester last year with bad flu a week before the race. Flu came early this year so I'm hoping I'll get a clear run to Chester. Best nit to stress too much though. Good attitude JDA. |

Ta, I'm just finishing brekkie & reading thoughts about when metaspeed lose their 'pop'. Mine have covered 140miles so they might not make it to Abingdon but that means new trainers allowed which is always a nice feeling.

The watch says 1h20m52s so my trainers stoll have some 'pop' in them. Warm up screwed by 30 mins for final mile to venue plus long loo queues (I'm usually OK after at home routine but late anxiety kicked in a must go response). A .66 mile jog later I held back a bit from the start and found a group, worked to next pair ahead between mile 4 and 6 then from 7 pushed on over taking folks along the way. Only one runner I took came back past me in the last mile so I felt it was very well paced. HR graph looks OK, it blipped at mile 12 so may need new battery, it certainly wasn't a dry contact given the at times biblical rain. Splits etc 1) 1mi - 6:11(6:11/mi) 151/158bpm [934b/mi] 95cal 2) 1mi - 6:29(6:29/mi) 157/160bpm [1018b/mi] 102cal 3) 1mi - 6:22(6:22/mi) 160/165bpm [1020b/mi] 102cal 4) 1mi - 6:10(6:10/mi) 160/168bpm [985b/mi] 98cal 5) 1mi - 6:08(6:08/mi) 162/169bpm [995b/mi] 99cal 6) 1mi - 6:17(6:17/mi) 165/172bpm [1036b/mi] 102cal 7) 1mi - 6:13(6:13/mi) 165/171bpm [1027b/mi] 101cal 8) 1mi - 6:07(6:07/mi) 168/175bpm [1027b/mi] 101cal 9) 1mi - 6:09(6:09/mi) 168/177bpm [1032b/mi] 101cal 10) 1mi - 6:13(6:13/mi) 169/179bpm [1051b/mi] 103cal 11) 1mi - 5:59(5:59/mi) 170/179bpm [1016b/mi] 99cal 12) 1mi - 5:52(5:52/mi) 174/188bpm [1022b/mi] 101cal 13) 1mi - 6:01(6:01/mi) 165/183bpm [993b/mi] 99cal 14) 0.12mi - 41(5:51/mi) 178/186bpm [1043b/mi] 12cal |
