Blimey, Heartburn, I don't think there's much I can tell you that you're not already doing.

How long have you been running? How long have you been able to maintain 35-40 mile weeks?

Started running about six years ago but only more seriously a few years ago. First HM was oct 2010 ran 2.02 (didnt even own a garmin at this point), then june 2011 ran a half in 1.51 then nothing until the marathon last may as I had some injuries. Was prob on about 25-30 mile weeks back then. Since mara training last year I got shin splints and this niggled on and off over summer but got back to 35 ish mile weeks end of last year and ran them ever since then. Hence prob need a bit of a step back. Ten km and five km PBs are only ones Ive done and both in last six weeks.

Right, so you're pretty well trained at present so big rapid jumps are less likely. I think your basic plan looks pretty solid. A long run, a couple of mid-range runs, some speedwork and an off-road run is a pretty good mix. Maybe try alternating between the tempo run and some 400m or 800m interval sessions?

Also putting in an easy week every 3 or 4 gives your body a chance to recover and adapt so the hard training has more of an effect and you're less likely to get injured and overtrained.

This year I have run: 1.44, 1.43, 1.42 at HM distance. I need to crack 1.40 this year! Just starting a train block for marathons in Sept and Oct. Obviously will be upping the milage, but anyone have suggestions as to what I need to look out for to make sure I can PB at HM distance come end of Oct (only HM planned until then is Great North Run).

Pregressive long runs in marathon training should stand you in good stead. Last few (up to 5 or 6) at target pace so that your body can learn how hard they'll be on the day. :) And crank up the 5k pace so everything seems easy after that.

I am hoping to do this off the back of Comrades mileage, autum marathon training and a bit of weightloss rather than specific training for the half. Won't be attempting it until later in the year - GNR or Gosport or Norwich. I need to get used to sub 7:30 pace as well so I am doing a few shorter races over the summer.

No - it opened when I was doing Comrades so I'm doing Gosport instead.
