If that's your only problem, create the pivot table without grouping the dates, then from the menu choose Data -> Group and Outline -> Group... Monthly intervals is the default. |

It's a bit weirder than that Neal - the ' appears to come from copy and 'paste special', which only provides a value if 'Text' is selected - then columns formatted as time.... I've done it wrong, haven't I?

Need to paste as numbers not text, then use the formatting as 00:00:00 oumaumau. Sorry, I didn't come in here to speak Excel, just to ask about cheaper software. G

HappyG - do you have any connection or link to education - see moneysavingexpert.com Glenn - I suspect you'd qualify - not sure about the cloud storage though - or if that just comes with it. Or does your employer have a corporate/enterprise license - if so you may qualify for the Microsoft Home Use Program. |

I'm afraid not. Thanks for suggestions though. I am my own employer (so I get 40% off from Philip Hammond but I'd still rather pay less still!) - I'll prob just get the £64 version. Grrr. Software used to be free! G

Happy G, when Excel first came out it cost way more than the whole Office package now.

I worked for a software company and we just swapped our £500 box of software for someone else's. So I never had to pay for software. I agree, it is actually now very reasonably priced. Maybe I should just persist with Libre Office. I was just disappointed that the first thing I tried to do didn't work the same as Excel! G |
