I am hoping to cover some unvisited bits (which for me, won't be difficult, as I've not done too much of it) next month. We're off to Thurlestone for a week. I was thinking of running the section from Thurlestone to the pointy bit just below Salcombe; then returning back inland. Weather and legs and other itinerary dependent

We are now eight years in to our attempt to complete the whole Path in a sequential manner. We started in Plymouth in 2016 and spent odd days and the occasional weekend walking to Poole. After lockdown, it was up to Minehead and we are now (virtually, at least!) camped in Bude with the whole of the Cornish coast ahead of us. We have an idea that we might try and do Bude to Newquay as a single expedition; there are buses to Bude and a railway out of Newquay.

Fetch - these 2 might cover you route. It's not too onerous, although be prepared to stop a few times to enjoy the views. And watch out for the dinosaurs! fetcheveryone.com/routes-view.php?id=1805246 fetcheveryone.com/routes-view.php?id=1805190 There is a bus from Salcombe to Malborough which could gve you a breather on the way back! (or there was 5 years ago) Salcombe to Torcross is also a good trip - with reasonable buses linking Kingsbridge to Salcombe and Torcross. And a pub in Torcross to have a pint while waiting for the bus And another by the bus station in Kingsbridge if waiting for a connection. Synge - wild camping? or other accommodation on the way? I assume you know the bits round Boscastle are challenging enough without a lot of baggage. I've stayed in good houses in Welcome, Bude, and Porth if you want to break it up. |

Thanks um. I know the Hope-Swoosh bit pretty well, but it's Hope-Salcombe that'll be new ground. Treating it as a training run for off-road-readiness

Fetch, we did a nice circular route between Hope Cove and Salcombe last year. We designed this so that the return (to Salcombe) was along the coast path. Most of the route would be very runnable, although I seem to remember there were one or two sections on the climb away from North Sands which were on narrow woodland paths (including the location of an obvious navigational error!). um - we haven’t really got that far with the planning yet, but I’m quite keen to carry a day pack at most. This would mean finding proper accommodation, which I think would require us to be prepared to walk a mile or two off the route at the end (and start) of some sections.

I am due to retire in 12 months time, and my retirement pressie to myself will be to through walk the SWCP. Currently dusting off my tent which is almost 40 years old, and the £15 rucksac I bought second hand for the kids to do their DofE exped. What can possibly go wrong? This weekend we are campervannining in Combe Martin, so will take a gentle jog north to Great Hangman on sat, and 4ish miles in the other direction on Sunday. |

what site in Combe Martin, Dillthedog ? I hope you get to do your trip We're heading SW next month for ~10 days. Hoping to add some small chunks of the north coast, but since I don't have a proper record of the bits I've already done over the years I will probably end up repeating myself and missing bits out. The only site we have booked is for a couple of nights in Bude, we plan to chase the least bad weather. |
