I was taught to "surf" on a little polystyrene body board at Newquay by an elderly gentleman who was staying in the same hotel. He and his wife came out and about with us some days. Looking back, it probably wasn't appropriate for him to be sending me off on a wave by shoving me by the bum, but I didn't think anything of it at the time.

I am now a mile outside Rocky Valley and now on the stretch MrL and I physically walked many years ago. We carried our tent, food etc on our backs whilst doing it.

I keep getting lucky with the streetviews! Lovely view for my stop just past Widemouth Bay. |

I need to spend a few days looking for the photos (real paper ones) from my trip to Widemouth for A level biology - actually I feel a blog coming on for when I get there ![]() |

I'm overlooking Shipload Bay. I hope it isn't stormy overnight or I think I could be blown over the cliff. I bet there were smugglers here once upon a time. thebeachguide.co.uk *does a bit of research* "The beach was famous in the days of old for having been a favourite haunt for smugglers and access to the beach would have been via a small donkey path that tacked down the cliffs. Unfortunately the path has long since washed away as the area is prone to landslides." Thought so. It has that feel to it. |

I'm overlooking Buck's Mills. We went there once, it looked interesting on the map. Think I walked a bit of the coast path. |

Just on the approach to Tintagel after today's run. Only 20 miles or so to reach Polzeath, which is the first area that I really know quite well. Might even try an actual day trip ...
