People had a go at Dowsett for appearing to be prepared to overlook Armstrong's drug-taking with regard to his legacy. Although Wiggins has come out and said it looks damning, he noticeably hasn't criticised Armstrong directly. Additionally, of all the riders in the peloton, Wiggins is as big a cycling fan and knowledgeable about the history of the sport as anyone. So to say he is surprised about the evidence is to my eyes a little disingenuous as he would have read all the same stuff all the fans have AND he would have had knowledge that none of us do by virtue of being in the peloton itself. It feels a little like a bit of a PR statement with a little bit of fake shock. Anyone who has heard the Hamilton stuff will not be surprised in the slightest by the evidence. And judging by the twitter comments of people like big Jens, there is still a great deal of Omerta lurking in the pro ranks. Of the commentators, Carlton Kirby made his thoughts clear. David Harmon still hadn't read it all. Still absolutely no comment from Phil and Paul though! |

Armstrong should write an updated version (director's cut?) of his original biographies, they'd sell a million copies each, he could give all the money to his foundation, everyone's a winner. (excapt Armstong, of course. everyone knows only losers take drugs) |

The thing is I think everyone is surprised and shocked. Not necessarily about what LA got up to and what happened, but perhaps who they have statements from, the amount of evidence there is and the detail they've gone into. I'm guessing that some are still shocked that any of this actually finally got out into the open. A lot of the riders seem damned by what they say and what they don't say. If thousands were out there analysing everything we all said or gave opinion on (whether innocent, off the cuff or barbed) I'm sure all sorts of conclusions should be drawn. The majority of stuff about Omerta spouted is crap. Especially with riders like Dowsett, he was on the start line at a race and probably just said the first thing that come into his head. I think we do need to cut some riders some slack when they make comments, or are interviewed they're not politicians (and are all of differing intellect), they have to think up an answer to a question when asked. It's not like a lot of these things are rehearsed or well thought out like it would be if they issued a written statement or press release. |

Actually the funny thing is if LA hadn't been such a prolific tweeter in the early days of twitter there'd probably be much fewer riders bothering with it!

It is perfectly simple. There should be complete and utter unequivocal damning of anything drug related and anybody or anyone who is proved to be involved with anything drug related. It isn't difficult. Although it seems to be for anyone actually involved in the sport judging by all the fudging, faux naivety and fence sitting going on. McQuaid and Verbruggen have to go. Kimmage is a bloody hero. Every tour from '91 through to at least '10 should have an asterix next to it. 20 years of cycling is basically only worthy of being flushed down the toilet. |

So what you are saying is that riders aren't allowed any opinion unless it's the one you agree with? Or they may agree with you but it's wrong that they aren't quite articulate or eloquent enough to get their opinion across in a manner which pleases most cycling fans?
