8 days to go, time to start looking at the weather.... Well, it doesn't look like snow, at least. Where's the best sources for locally accurate weather around the race route? |

Just lifting stuff from last year's thread, for those of you who tolerate Start to the top of Pen-y-Pass - strava.com Start to Beddgelert - strava.com Start to Waunfawr - strava.com And for completeness, a new one of the whole 2017 route - strava.com And answering my own question about about weather, the MWIS data, updated a couple of days in advance, is the best predictor rather than the more generic weather data sites like the BBC etc. A link to the Snowdonia forecast mwis.org.uk |

Well, if the BBC is correct, this should be pleasant... |

Still a few days yet, that forecast could change completely. *crosses fingers and sticks head in the sand* |

Well the weather looks delightful! I need advice re clothing... I would usually just run a marathon in a long sleeved top but the organisers keep talking about an extra layer. Do people actually carry one? If so I'm thinking camelback with a jacket in. Or do I go lightweight with no top and try and get round quicker? Not used to running marathons around mountains in Wales..

I didn't carry anything extra last year, but the weather was kinder, though I think I did have a pair of gloves on me. I've got a foil blanket from a race that takes up next to no space in my flipbelt so that will be with me whatever the weather for emergency use if I have to stop for a while in a remote location, but I rarely wear anything other than a t-shirt / shorts anyway - my skin is waterproof etc etc.

I would think quicker runners wouldn't have to worry too much about an extra layer. If you're running the whole thing you'll keep warm. I think the advice probably applies more to the slow pokes like me at the back, I'll be taking walk breaks and if you're soaked to the skin you can get pretty cold, pretty fast when you start walking. If it looks like it's going to lob it down I'll run in a lightweight jacket, otherwise I'll just stick a warm baselayer under my t-shirt, I doubt I'll be moving fast enough to overheat! |

I challenge anyone not to overheat coming up Pen-y-Pass or the final climb back over to Llanberis, no matter what your pace!!

Just a pair of lightweight gloves for me by my 4th Snowdonia a few years ago. Having cold hands was more demoralising than getting wet.
