Funny you should say that Alpen because I haven’t retired (46) but been working from home for my four days a week. I only go into the office on an ad-hoc basis to deliver a briefing or get updated on my laptop. But - I might be about to quit. Hubby & I commute together as we both work at the same site 50 mins drive from home. He has got a promotion and will be mostly working from home in the future. As I get a lot of fatigue we both know I won’t cope with working back at the office and driving myself (I sleep in the car both ways some days). So this might be an enforced retirement without the pension for now. I’ll look for something local. So, not retired yet, and no pension yet, but I might soon be a 1950s housewife and start darning socks and growing veg. Anyone done anything similar with any tips let me know!

I managed to not work from the age of 42 and managed to survive without a pension. Not sure how now really, I think I took in foreign students (not available at the moment), the odd paying guest and some savings. Getting rid of the mortgage helps greatly too.

How is everyone doing? Are we all still slow and proud - I know I am. Long Covid, bad chest infection- whatever it is has certainly seen my running take a nose dive but hey still plodding.

Oh hi LG! Long time no speak! I hope you feel better soon. I am still plodding along slowly and lucky to still love it! I’m racking up the miles this year and have so far (touch wood) avoided covid completely (no idea how) so just the odd niggle to contend with (a bit of plantar fasciitis). Are there any other former SAP folks lurking out there? LG how old is your grandson now? Thinking of his name, is it Alfie? Sorry if my memory has let me down there!

Still here, haven't been able to run since before SWMBO's SAH ... I then got told to not overexert ... which was apparently, my GP being over cautious but it overlapped with my current issue with a complication of my C. Pancreatitis ... But I am trying to get back into walking regularly ~ so a bit Super Slow And Proud, here 😉 |

Lemon10 Aw lovely to hear from you . Yes Alfie is nearly 8 (Christmas day) and has since been joined by Brodie who’s birthday it is today and he is one. Glad you have avoided Covid. I had once but OH has had twice. Racking up the miles is good. Think this will be my worst year but as long as I don’t give up completely then I live in hope that I will once again enjoy it. decorum Walking is just as good a way to get out there and keep yourself active. Reading your news on the old codgers thread you also have a lot to contend with looking after dad. |

Hello lovely slow and proud folk. Still here, still plodding, even more slowly and for fewer miles at a time than ever before. Have had Covid a few times but not suffered too badly. However, the Covid kilos I packed on during the second lockdown (and subsequent ones) are not budging and I certainly feel older and fatter and less fit. I found the whole period stressful from a general life uncertainty point of view, I was furloughed and brought back but spent 6 months thinking I was going to be jobless, then there's all the general world doom and gloom. My sister reckons my body has gone into self-preservation mode and harvested a bit of fat for when the bad times hit! While all that paints a gloomy picture, I am actually very happy and enjoying life, and hope you lovely people are as well and happy as you can be. |

Walkies yesterday and today. Both of which I really wanted to do but probably shouldn't have ... Isn't it the ones you have to dig deep on which are supposed to build the most character? 🤔 😆 We could really do with a dog. Something to walk, other than the BlackDog 😉 [Can't have one due to already having the rather doddery and curmudgeonly, Aged Parent at home ...] Psychic hugs to all (()) . |

Waves 👋 I am loitering around the site - not much happening on the running/ exercise front due to too much happening on the family / pet front - Covid / Mum / Nala all hit at the same time which totally floored me, just as I was hoping to return to some form of exercise after a small operation in March. I should find out soon if Mum is staying in a care home after a dementia related accident in July which lead to a month in hospital. Nala is off to doggy hospital on Wednesday to see a neurologist and have a MRI after being ill at the beginning of August. Hopefully that is my 3 bits of bad luck out of the way and I can focus on rebuilding my health and fitness as I still have Brighton marathon to tick off (I had to defer due to my operation!!!) As they say, things can only get better ❤️🩹 |
