The relays are always fun. I’ve got a team now. Think there’s at least two teams from Musselburgh DAC coming.

Not sure if this is the best place to ask, but how is the running in the Pentlands? I'm going to be in Edinburgh for few days shortly. Looking for some quite easy terrain also MTB-friendly for my wife, hoping to avoid boggy fell-running...gravel tracks or tarmac would be great.

Been a while since I was there but lots of hilly runnable routes in the peatlands that should be quite dry this time of year. I liked the run starting from the ski centre car park, run up the road up the middle of the hills and up onto West Kip then back over Scald Law and Carnethy then back over Caerketton to the start

For biking I prefer driving down to Innerleithen

Not ideal for mountain biking. The trails in Pentlands more suitable for running / walking. I agree Glentress / Innerleithen, an hour south of Edinburgh, are perfect MTB areas.

Pentlands is a brilliant running playground though. Shout if you want suggested routes. Many different entry points, depends if you have car or are using bus etc. :-) G

Thanks for comments. I will be around Blackford Hill area, so probably worth driving over the ring road to start. We sometimes do the MTB centres but doubt we'll want to take such a big trip as Innerleithen - I'm just looking for something to fit into a couple of hours that's a change from a circuit of Arthur's Seat. Perhaps with lunch at the Flotterstone Inn to follow :-)

There's a trail half marathon in the Pentlands ( the 7Reservoirs ), that avoids the tops and sticks to the valleys. a mixture of some tarmac, some single track and some wider more groomed trails, it's a great route. I used to MTB it, or parts of it, regularly when I was in Edinburgh.
You can connect to it easily from Flotterstone carpark, maybe a mile or so up the road, so would be about 15 miles in total.
Check out the route from my log fetcheveryone.com/t-14431517

Except when it's wet Gus, you can't cycle the Glencorse end of Phantom's Cleuch. That was the sort of terrain I was thinking of when I was saying it's not great for MTBs. But you're right - that's only 10% of that route. :-) G
