Ally-C's wife here. The half marathon is really good: horror hilly climb out of Kinlochleven mind you over quite rough terrain. If you get stuck behind people you'll end up walking, that was my excuse anyway. Climb goes on for a fair bit, then it's up and down for a bit, then a wonderful 6 mile or so on great forest track to the end. It's a pretty exposed course if the weather is grim mind you. The year I ran it they were quite strict about you carrying waterproofs etc.

My one complaint - this might have changed - were the buses back to Kinlochleven. They were organised for the marathon really and I'd to hang about at the finish for a right long time. The year I ran it they mucked up the baggage buses and they didn't appear at the finish until about 3 1/2 hours after the 1/2 start, so basically was trapped at the finish with no bus back to start and no clothes to put on...........people were getting pretty hacked off.

Assuming they've sorted this though I'd highly recommend it.

Not running Fort William on Sunday but I think it's the best Scottish marathon. Really superb course

Just recced the Aberdeen Half Mara with friends this evening. Notwithstanding the p***** g rain it's a bit of a tough one. Cobbles, some nasty little undulations between 9 and 11 miles and around mile 6, and the joy that is the full length of the boulevard x 1.5.

The road at top of schoolhill is being completely dig up so interesting to see how they deal with that bit.

It's my home city so despite these little reservations it's great to have something there and sure it will be super (still spaces I hear).

I did a recce with the organisers last week and the road works in town are due to be completed soon. Am doing the measure on Saturday morning for both courses - should be interesting.

That'll be a very interesting job OC. Good to hear the road works will be finished - that corner at Schoolhill is very messy at the minute. Some questions for you from our recce you may have a view on.

1. Will they be covering the cobbles (assume not).

2. What happens at Pittodrie? Is it a little out n' back or do we go around the stadium (settle a dispute among our little group).
3. Will I get a PB.

Not covering the cobbles - should be interesting doing the measure on a bike!

There is a short out and back bit at Pittodrie - basically turn up the street by the ground and there is a turn in road just by the entrance to ground (reception area entrance not turnstiles)

Of course you'll get a PB
