Son of a Pronator Man
Announcement from the Wee County Harriers... It is with regret that this year's Sheriffmuir 11 will not go ahead mainly due to the Inn being closed and therefore creating issues with parking, registration and toilet facilities etc. We are however thinking about the possibility of running the "race" on a club night so if anyone wishes to enter/come along that is not a wee county harrier let me know and i will pass on more details when i have them. The good news however is that on Sunday 27th August we will be holding the inaugural Cambus Quarter. This will be a 6.5 miles trail(ish) race starting and finishing in cambus. The route is flat, picturesque and not as painful as the S11. Numbers for the first year will be limited to 100. I am currently in the process of setting up entry central and finalising 101 details for the race, which should hopefully open up a week today. Apologies to anyone who had pencilled in the S11 on their calendar. We were holding out as late as possible in the hope that the Inn would re open sooner rather than later.

Well, they can frown away (and in fact I did miss out a couple of inaugurals I might have made because of that) but ...
Having been to Vogrie and Ruchill recently and at some point spoken to the ED or RD of each as well as other volunteers, I would say the organisers of both were delighted to see as many turn up as did. Vogrie had a lot more runners and needed quite a bit of vehicle traffic management, which they were prepared for (Ruchill had zero issue with this), but would either have wished that their inaugural was a handful of locals? No way.
There are a few places which would be swamped by a one-off influx and where this is more likely; but in that case, as with one of those about to start, make a special appeal for tourists to hold off for two or three weeks. But that should be the exception, not the norm.

back a page or so
Nairn Half is a bit of a testy course - a little lumpy on way back - into prevailing wind, usually on a very hot day. Also a finish along a path outside the Games which is not closed or even segregated for runners means you are heading into a crowd.
