TR.. it's more for my Raynauds when I get a bit more concerned about cold weather. Otherwise I just stick a finger out of the door and know what to wear. Re. Sciatica, my chiro told me to keep doing strength exercises for the area to avoid the pain returning. Mine is 95% ok now after I had the injection. Good session today in that 9m run.
OO.. you salvaged a pretty good year overall after the Feb injury & other niggles.
Jools.. credit due for seeing out a 10m run on tired legs, those barre classes must be pretty tough.
8.5m today, around 2260m for this year which is pleasing considering the injury layoffs I've endured. An almost identical 2240m of cycling, most of that done from June to Sept when I couldn't run at all.

DT - that's a very positive parkrun there. Looking good!
Gerard - sorry to read about your mate.
OO - what's your next challenge now you've done your sub-3s to 60?
We had a pretty chilled Christmas. Walked a bit, but that's still all I have done exercise wise so far.
Happy new year all!

Well done all those that went sub3 this year. I took much more pleasure in some of the performances posted on here than I did my own unspectacular performances in 2024.
Wardi - agreed, I look at the next day so i know wether its long sleeves (and how many) and which gloves I might need.
7m easy today, 224 for December with plenty of non running days, 3131m for the year.

Gerard, really sorry to hear about your mate, must be a shock and very upsetting. As I approach 50 I have this sudden awareness a lot more of these things and seem to pick up a lot more on news reports of people in 50s dying. But as I often say to people who moan about getting older, it's better than the alternative.
Running wise you've put yourself in a good place now as a platform for a strong year, look forward to seeing how you progress.
Ouchouch, a good 2024 all in. It was good to meet you at the Newport mara. Let's hope you don't get the current weather for you next race!
Tr, good session and building up. Despite various problems you've put a solid year in, even if it hasn't yielded the race results you wanted.
Jools, well trudged out for the 10m.
Wardi, that's a solid year given the injury!
TT, fingers crossed your recovery continues at pace.
Oo, hope parkrun today was fun.
Lmh/Riggsy, hope you have both had a good last few days.
Happy New Year all (perhaps should have started with that!).
Relatively quiet few days. 18m Sunday was hard work, poor nutrition meant I bonked at around 15m so last 3 were a right trudge. Gave me 56m for work so decent in Christmas week.
I was down in Bristol Sunday afternoon and evening for a few beers with mates then onto Salisbury Monday to meet the family at in laws for new year. Drove to a david lloyd Monday morning on right side of Bristol for onwards journey, ran 7m around the ring road cycle path then had a spa. Nothing yesterday as we were out and about so will carry that run to Saturdays day off. Was going to get up this morning for Salusbury parkrun, but it was 50mph winds and wet so just stayed in bed. Will do my 6m run a little later when weather passes through. Looks like it's giving way to a pretty cold spell.
236m for December so for 4th consecutive month my highest ever mileage for that month, beating my previous December high on 220m.

2024
A year that was completed without injury or any significant illness, other than a few days stomach bug.
2850m, averaging 54.5m per week average beating last years best which was 49.5m per week. Doesn't sound like much, 5m per week but it's almost an extra month of running.
13 races, excluding parkruns of which there were 9, and races I didn't race. 2 marathons (Newport and Chicago), one race for England masters (Manchester half) and a qualification for next year's 10k team in Newcastle.
Highlight was probably the Chicago mara and just the whole trip away. The race itself however was spot on in execution and exceeded my expectations with a negative split. Disappointing not to run sub 2.45 last year however.
I spent most of last year doubting my fitness. However in March I ran a strong 10m pb then a big 20m performance. In April I ran a course pb at road relays followed by a 5k pb. However the marathon to follow just didn't click.
10k has continued to disappoint me with 2 relatively poor performances. In fact my best 10k times came in 10m races and the Manchrster half (bizarrely just a week after the poor Bristol 10k). I'm determined to nail a 10k this year.
Pbs ended in April however I wasn't a million miles of the level in races over the year.
In terms of wins, I got county 10k AG bronze in the county 10k champs in July and won my AG at the most recent 10m race, which also got me midland masters gold.
So all in all a year of consolidation at this level. A few things have happened in training this last month and my recent 10m race and parkrun to suggest there maybe a breakthrough incoming and hopefully 2025 will be a good year. I turn 49 next week so it's the last year of my 40s!
With Tokyo and London booked in the first quarter, with a local half between them, hopefully it'll be a big start to the year all being well. I must however improve my 10k before the England masters race in July or I'll get properly found out.

DT - good mix of socialising and training DT, you had another very strong year. You probably need a 10k focus before July, you are always training for longer races, so will have untapped 10k capability.
Weather was wild today, wet and very strong gales, but got a hilly 8m done.

I hope you're right about the imminent breakthrough DT19.
Work was fine. It was filthy here this morning too so I wouldn't have run. Not sure about tomorrow with a warning for ice and a forecast feels like of -4C. Will see what it's actually like when it gets light.
You did well to get out for your 9 miles in that TR.

LMH - I'd had 7 or 8 non running days in December, so didn't want to start January with another. It's been very wet here so will be dangerous if icy. Back on the normal routine as of tomorrow.

Final year count for me was 2438 miles, about 220 below last year plus 60 miles of swimming. The reduction in miles was due to injuries, being more cautious or just being a bit less driven. Despite declining form it was a year with some achievements. The European champs in Poland was the highlight- probably the biggest title I'll ever win. Also Chester was a second marathon medal and 2nd sub 3 race of 2024. But no sub 18 minute parkruns or sub 37 10ks this year. And ending the year injured is a bit grim, I'm pretty shit at being injured. I'll need to shake off the injury in 2025 and hopefully halt the decline. In any case it's been great to share the ups and downs with you guys, hearing your advice and all about your achievements. Onwards to 2025....

Sorry to have been AWOL last few days. Father in law was rushed into hospital late on the 30th meaning a dash back home from the van. Spent most of New Year’s Eve with him. My colleague who works the nights I don’t kindly worked 31st for me. Father in law now settled just needs to get his oxygen requirement back to what he has at home. Back at work tonight.
Looks like most people have had a mixed year which I suppose is to be expected in endurance sports. Hopefully the end of year injuries will not linger in 2025.
Managed 6 miles on 29/12 with a little on the firm sand. Fortunately decided to run again on 30th with 4 miles including some drills and 10x10 second strides on the firm sand. Didn’t run on 31st but on the 1st managed 4 miles. Still aware of Achilles but seems to be better has run goes on. Will rest on 2/1 as will be short of time between work shifts and hospital visits.
Mixed year for me with the DNF maravan but everything up to beginning of November was good. Fastest 5k to half marathon for a few years and some course PB. Training for maravan felt good just maybe over cooked it with the 20 miler including fastest parkrun for a long time.
2025 will start with a build up to 40-50 miles a week then take it from there
