Sorry sj - I was rushing when I read back and posted before. I hope that you are feeling back to normal soon. Which half riggys? DT19 - it did turn out nice and bright here though back to being on the chilly side. The break obviously did me good as I was looking forward to running and kept extending it once I was out. Just as well as I'm now working tomorrow. Surprisingly the flooding had gone apart from the fields having a lot of standing water and the grass being waterlogged. |

OO61 - re your knee, how often are you running in VF ? DT - good for your lad that footy was still on then. Agreed, you've only just come off a marathon block, so will soon get backup there ready for your Tokyo block. LMH - I see, plenty of time though. You don't have to at for your place until late Feb, and don't need to run a 20m until March. Riggsy - I had to look up where Tissington is........How about a nice normal flat road mara somewhere in 2025, so you can maximise the return on your training. Had a really stiff back today, but managed to bike commute in, and then run a few easy miles home this evening. |

Hope your back eases TR, nice work getting some exercise done. BTW.. I met JAP in Barca in 2015, he ran 2.38 that day, same year Dan A ran his one & only sub 2.45 there. From PO10 it seems JAP only ran one more marathon, mostly does Parkrun nowadays. Riggys.. sensible approach, accepting an injury is often the most difficult stage. DT19.. I clocked 3.43 at Chester on my 65th birthday. My gut feeling is that I don't really want to do another marathon any slower than that. Most older runners tend to stop competing when their best times start to slip away, I know a couple of lads who packed in when they couldn't break 40 minutes for 10k. It does sound terribly negative but I sometimes think 'do I want to put myself through 4 months of training to run a marathon time 30-40 mins slower than at my peak'. I ran 10 consecutive marathons between 3.03 - 3.13 at age 42-52. Most of the older guys I know have stopped running marathons, they usually cite struggling with the marathon training load in old age. A girl in my club ran 3.19 in her 40's. She's now in her late 60's and takes 4.30 - 4.45 hrs these days but keeps churning them out. I admire her approach in many ways! I did get an unofficial diagnosis of my knee from a former health practitioner today. Given that I can function normally despite a very tender knee suggests no lasting damage. I almost certainly have the equivalent of 'housemaid knee' lol. Acute patellar bursitis, ice packs and ibuprofen to continue. 8.5m this morning. Pretty windy here, got caught in some squally rain for a couple of miles then the sun came out again. |

That's interesting Wardi, not sure how I'll feel when my times drop steeply. Probably stick to parkruns 🤔 I'm mainly running in VPs TR. Very old ones for training. Hope the back eases. |

Wardi - i never really knew him. Good news on the knee being minor. OO - your knee might thank you for some time out of VFs? I won't get to the sticks to parkrun stage ! |

TR - funnily enough I tweaked my back/shoulder yesterday - no idea how. Hope yours eases quickly. Wardi - I'd got for the ibuprofen gel rather than tablets for bursitis. I think that if you can do it as a nice day out, like London, then accepting a slower time and maybe a reduced training load can be enjoyable. It doesn't always have to be about chasing times. Extra shift again today so no run. |

Bloody knees 😬 Might be worth a try TR but doesn't feel like shoes. I'm in the Lakes so planning a big walk today, then a Keswick ac road sesh tonight. I'll try trail shoes. |
