Sigh
For me, I'm nearly back to my personal all-time lowest handicap of 19.0, which was from December 2016; I find that individual results only make minor change, but continued improvements will come through:
However - if I were to improve my current parkrun (5k) time by 56 seconds (that'd be nice!), it would only yield an improvement of 0.4 in average conditions:
Changing the conditions from 'average' to 'slow' will only improve that by a further 0.1.
So, I just keep a casual eye on it, don't expect any overnight improvements, but as a general measure of how I'm doing it's as good as any other.

Each individual result only adds one fifth of it’s impact compared to the result it displaces, hence the relatively small movements.

I like RunBritain rankings! It's just told me that my 10K yesterday improved my handicap more than the one from 2 weeks ago, despite being 29 seconds slower!
My feeling was that it was a. a tougher course and b. tough conditions with a stiff wind being a headwind for much of the return. I kept pace with a couple people who train quicker than me at the club, I finished 5th over 50 and 29th out of 250 (though these things always depend on who turns up, obv, especially in small, local club races). Mostly I felt I've been running better and still improving despite times not getting much better.
So flippin YAY! to RunBritain rankings!
I've also decided that I like the % in the results as a way of grading how I'm doing relative to rest of the country (but only because it's flattered me a bit, in the past! My best was 2.1% for mara in 2013!) G

I am still waiting for my ranking to be updated from a race a week ago. I think it’s the issue of the race though not yet releasing the results.

hm
yesterdays Great Scottish Run is already in Run Britain rankings but last week's Scottish Half Marathon is not yet there. I know in the results it said something about a period of scrutiny before the results are released for rankings. If the Great Run people can get results out the next day ,surely GSI events can as well.
Its annoying as I think my handicap will improve to its best ever level and would quite like to see that.

Yeah, East Neuk 10K (10 quid entry, organised by Ainster Haddies, chip timed with a piece of tinfoil on carboard and 250 runners) was in at 9am this morning! I don't know what GSI do to make such a hash of their events! Do you remember the year they wouldn't publish the results until they had been in the local newspaper first?! G
